9th International Symposium on Composites Manufacturing for high performance applications
Welcome to the official website of ISCM 2021!
Please note that German Aerospace Centre (DLR e.V.) and the Dutch National Aerospace Laboratory (NLR) take the health
and safety of our partners, event attendees, supporters and staff very seriously.
The 9th International Symposium on Composites Manufacturing for high performance applications has been postponed.
The planned 9th ISCM from 4th to 5th of November 2020 will be postponed to 21st to 22nd of April 2021.
This is how the conference organizer DLR and NLR is responding to the increasingly acute global situation around the recent occurrence of the corona virus pandemic. We apologize for this notice but the situation has been evolving on a daily basis and the changing circumstances are out of our control.
We will keep you up to date on the planning as good as we can. However, if circumstances will require the cancellation
or postponement of ISCM 2020 symposium, the information will be shared on this website and all registrants will be
notified and their registration fees will be fully refunded. A hybrid or virtual ISCM 2020 symposium is not planned.
Please check this website and our FAQs again for receiving updated information.
Dear friends and prospective participants of ISCM,
When we started planning ISCM 2020, no one of us ever imagined that a few months later a global pandemic will rule our world. During the last months we kept to the initial date of 4th and 5th of November 2020, hoping that the remaining time will last to find effective measures for fighting the Covid19-pandemic and to enable safe conditions for holding a conference like ISCM. Looking at the period of November 2020, the actual circumstances, which we have to base our planning on would allow only a small number of participants who in addition would have to follow strict regulations to reduce the risk of getting infected with Covid19. These circumstances would lead to a conference format that no one would appreciate, neither would we as organizers. Of course we could run the conference as an online event. But the organizing parties (DLR and NLR) are feeling confident that this would degrade the character of ISCM, which makes this conference so valuable. From our perspective the high value of ISCM lays not only in the excellent presentations and interesting contents of the conference but maybe even more in the discussions after each presentation and during the breaks, in the face-to-face encounter of colleagues and specialists of the composite manufacturing community.
Therefore we decided to postpone the conference, including the deadlines for call for abstracts and registration.
The new date for ISCM 2020(21) is the 21st and 22nd of April 2021.
Please block this time in your calendar and let’s keep fingers crossed that we can meet then and enjoy an ISCM like we are all expecting it!
We hope to be able to welcome you at Center for Lightweight-Production-Technology in Stade in April 2021. We would really love to! Stay healthy and keep an eye on our website for further information!

The goal of ISCM is to promote discussion on recent developments in manufacturing of high performance composites and related areas.
Discussions at ISCM involve analysis of emerging issues, the state of the art in composites manufacturing and discussion on those developments that will shape the near future of composites applications.
ISCM has a tradition in aerospace composites manufacturing, but is open to all, who develop composite products for high performance
applications, to present their achievements. Non-aerospace related high performance composites applications are therefore very welcome
to be presented at ISCM. ISCM 2021 will be held on 21st and 22nd of April 2021 at the Centre for Lightweight-Production-Technology,
Stade of the German Aerospace Centre (DLR) in Stade – Germany. ISCM is a biennial symposium organized by the German Aerospace Centre (DLR e.V.) and the Dutch National Aerospace Laboratory NLR who act as alternate hosts.
ISCM 2021 will focus on the following topics in the context of composite manufacturing:
• Development of manufacturing techniques
• Automated manufacturing
• Material performance
• Cost reduction
• Joining technologies
• Novel design methods
• Innovative tooling concepts
• Process control
• Quality assurance
• Certification issues
• Sustainability aspects
• Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul
• Life Cycle Assessment
The scientific committee is looking forward to receive abstracts in the addressed fields.
• Prof. Dr. Martin Wiedemann
• Dr. Jan Stüve
• Ir. Henri de Vries
